MacLaren Art Centre is the regional public art gallery serving the residents of Barrie, the County of Simcoe, and the surrounding area. The Gilbert Centre is a community-based, not-for-profit, charitable organization that has been providing programs and services as the AIDS Committee of Simcoe County since 1995. In 2015, in part to recognize the reality of people with HIV not developing AIDS and living healthy lives with HIV, the organization changed its name from the AIDS Committee of Simcoe County to the Gilbert Centre for Social and Support Services. The Gilbert Centre, named after our founder Ed Gilbert, not only reflects the changes in understanding and managing HIV, but also embraces the expansion of our programming to serve lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender individuals and families in the Simcoe Muskoka area.

Dr. Jill Price is a local interdisciplinary artist and educator grateful to be living on the traditional territories of the Anishinaabe Odawa, Ojibwe, and Potawatomi Nations in Barrie, Ontario. Inspired by years spent playing on the beach as a child and competitive beach volleyball player, Price has been conducting beach cleans to help protect the sandy shores and bodies of water she has come to love. Currently exhibiting at the MacLaren Art Centre with her exhibit Between Here and There: Walking for Tomorrow, stop by the MacLaren to view other artworks that document how she works to care for the environment while creating an exhibition.

New Path Youth and Family Services offers a free range of child and youth mental health services in-person, by-phone or online. Through leadership and partnerships, we ensure that children and youth have integrated, accessible, and inclusive mental health services when and where they need them. New Path was formed in 2000 as a result of an amalgamation of four child and youth mental health service providers across Simcoe County. The original vision of the amalgamation remains as true today as it did in the late 90’s and is reflected in New Path’s current vision of healthy, thriving and connected communities that support personal growth and well-being.

Jill Price’s Workshop

Beauty and the Beach: Cyanotype Printmaking with Jill Price
Sunday, August 3
Drop by between 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM

Come be a kid again and create your very own Cyanotype with local artist Jill Price. Using different objects Price has collected during a series of local beach cleans, visitors will be invited to create playful prints on handmade paper that Price has created. As an eco-friendly alternative to traditional photo-processing techniques, stick around to see how the sun exposes images and watch how the water further develops what you dreamed up!
